In my late youth when I got more and more into electronic music YouTube was the best that ever happened, a giant archive of old music, and for me it was older electronic music in particular, from the 1990s, that were a revelation. A lesson in history. I am very thankful for that and the people that felt the need to digitalize their vinyl and share it with others.

I arrived home from China on the 9th I was just really fucking tired to write a post. The plane ride from Beijing to Shanghai went without much of a hitch. Shanghai to Budapest was okay took. This time they didn't cool the plane to 15 degrees for the whole trip, so I wasn't concentrating on not freezing to death.
Beijing itself was good. It was a proper city, though there was no "high tech shock", mostly just a size shock because I live in the ring around a 2 million city with 4 underdeveloped metro lines, this had 29 lines but it worked like a charm honestly.
The Budapest Airport was shit, just got stuck in a line for 40 minutes, trying to get out after landing and picking up the packages.
Didn't feel much of a jetlag the first day, I went to bed a bit late and slept little, but it was fine. Last night I woke up every two hours, disoriented. I forgot I wasn't in China any more.
After getting home I arranged a lunch with a friend for whom I've bought cigarettes. The usual shtick, a burger lunch while we shittalk everything. Good stuff.
Yesterday I went to the library. There were some new disposed books the librarian notified me of before I went to China, I just didn't have the time to pick them up. I now have a complete set of the 史記 and the 漢書 in the Zhonghua Shuju edition, which is like 20 volumes of good primary sources I use on the regular.
I gave the librarian a teacake. She was surprised.
I have two exams today and then I can turn my attention to writing stuff for class. I have a lot of shit to get done before the exams are over still.
I don't want to say I am unhappy to be home, it's just that during the trip I didn't have to think about anything, just eating, snapping pictures and interpreting some Chinese. So yeah it's kind of a heavy burden.
Also adjusting to the time, some of my online friends I have a much more limited time to talk with because of timezones. I hate that.

Had lunch with a friend today. I gave him some Chinese cigarettes. He seemed to like them a lot, especially this random box of Yunnanese cigarettes I got in the mountains from some Tibetans in a hut.
"This is a real after-work cig" he said.
I smoked a Chunghwa. It was fine I guess.
We had a burger lunch and then went to the university campus for a coffee and some drinks. I shared some tips for his upcoming China trip and then just talked shit until he had a meeting. He paid in exchange for me gifting him the cigarettes.
On the way to the metro I noticed I lost my bus pass. Went back to look for it but couldn't find it. Checked at the restaurant, all the places we went to on campus, but nothing. I just ended up getting a new one. Mom wasn't really concerned since I only lost the pass, none of my documents. (I started keeping them separately.)
Probably fell out of my pockets on the metro.
Before the meeting I was leaving the metro and some crippled woman asked me to help her and I helped her walk to the pharmacy.
In the evening a professor sent me a job listing on facebook. "Historical press researcher". Looking for people with knowledge of "Obscure eastern languages at a high level". They are working on an anthology.
Mom got me some callcenter gig at her workplace two days a week for the summer but I will apply for the historical press researcher one too, since that's until September 30th.

I left work yesterday for lunch. They had just installed a new speed bump in the parking lot. The kind made of rubber and bolted down. It was in an awkward location. In the immediate entryway where drivers would not be able to roll into the lot off of the main road, but have to essentially stop first and impede traffic. I use the past tense here because the speed bump had been removed by the end of the day. The thing lasted less than 5 hours. I'm always surprised when logic and reason actually win out over stubborness and stupidity.

I am starting today at my brand new summer job. Hopefully earn a miniscule amount of cash to buy some more stuff.
Also had a pedicure. They used some fancy cream but I genuinely would’ve just preferred if they used a knife.

Did anyone of you old people had a crush social platform in high-school, where people could anonymously send a message to an account describing someone they saw at hs, the account would next post the anonymized description, the concerned person or person’s friends could then send his socials to the crush account that would then give it to the interested party?
In all of my high-school years, only one guy in my class got described by an interested girl. I’ll let you guess which option I was in.

Finally had a run after skipping a few weeks because of exams+China. My knee hurt a bit but I'm not feeling it today so I think the lesson is "Don't crank up the thing to 11 for the last 5 minutes" and then my leg will be fine.
Yeah, run longer, not faster and everything will be fine. Would probably help with stamina too.
Dad's building a shed. He plans on it to have a smaller part that is essentially a "workshop" of sorts. We talked about it and signed our own version of the Treaty of Tordesillas agreeing that we each get half of the future shelves. Good stuff.
Honestly I feel like my trip to China did a lot to help mend (build rather I think) my relationship with him.
Sister got back from her trip to Italy. She was visiting a friend. Got me two packs of coffee, which is nice.
I mean, I'm surprised, but I got her stuff from China so it's not like this is not reciprocal. (On my part. Usually I'm the asshole who forgets shit like this.)
Been entering books into my catalogue. Leftovers from before the trip and then all the stuff I got. I forgot to enter these cute little pocket volumes I got for 10-12 yuan each. Daodejing you can fit in your palm and so on. So I had to sit down for a third time.
Still haven't gotten to entering the Shiji and the Hanshu into my catalogue.
I need to hack together a study still. And then I can focus on what's important: Translating obscure, insanely mid shit from the Ming period.

It's infuriating how much American education sucks, but Germany might be even worse.
Diversity is strength, must give degrees to illiterate 'disadvantaged' children, must augment each and every curriculum with 'gender lectures'. Suggestion for a chapter in a textbook if anyone is reading along: 'gender in higher order logic or how sexist smelly CS-nerd shitlords named a proof assistant "isabelle" in the eighties.').
